We recognise the important role our staff play in making our business a success and our third operating principle, Excellence Through People, is a statement of our belief in JLIS staff. However, we also recognise that words without action have no meaning.
So when JLIS was awarded Investors in People (IiP) accreditation in April 2007 it was a mark of our commitment to the development of our staff. Gaining the accreditation is the culmination of many months of hard work by our managers and staff across the business. Much work has been done in areas such as ensuring staff across the business receive annual appraisals and have learning and development plans that match wider site and company wide objectives.
So what does achieving the IiP award mean?
The standard helps companies to improve performance and realise objectives through the management and development of their people. Investors in People provides a flexible framework, which any organisation can adapt for its own requirements. It mirrors the business planning cycle (plan, do, review) making it clear for organisations to follow and implement in their own planning cycle.
The framework involves:
- Plan – developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation.
- Do – taking action to improve the performance of the organisation.
- Review – evaluating the impact on the performance of the organisation.
